VVS Laxman

Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman, popularly known as VVS Laxman, was born on November 1, 1974, in Hyderabad, India. Widely regarded as one of the most stylish and technically sound batsmen in Indian cricket history, Laxman was known for his elegant stroke play and composure in tough situations. A right-handed batsman, Laxman made his debut for India in 1996, and over the course of his career, he became famous for his remarkable performances in Test cricket.

Laxman is perhaps best known for his match-winning 281-run innings against Australia in the 2001 Kolkata Test, which is considered one of the greatest Test innings ever played. His knock helped India turn around a seemingly hopeless situation, and the match became a defining moment in Indian cricket history. Laxman’s ability to play under pressure, especially against top-quality bowling attacks, earned him a reputation as a true match-winner.

Throughout his career, Laxman was a vital member of India’s Test lineup, forming key partnerships with the likes of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sourav Ganguly. His calm demeanor and technical proficiency made him a dependable batsman in the middle order. Although Laxman played fewer One-Day Internationals (ODIs), his brilliance in Test cricket ensured his place as one of India’s greats.

Laxman played 134 Test matches, amassing 8,781 runs at an average of 45.97, with 17 centuries and 56 half-centuries. He also played 86 ODIs, scoring 2,338 runs.
