Ollie Robinson

Ollie Robinson, a right-handed medium-fast bowler, has his prolific wicket-taking in the County Championship built on accuracy, seam movement and bounce generated from his 6 ft 5in frame. He made his List A debut, with Yorkshire in 2013 and finished the season with 59 wickets and 1,282 runs in Second XI Cricket. Ollie was known for his death-over spell in his time with the Yorks.

In July 2014, the pacer was axed by Yorkshire based on his unprofessional actions. After getting sacked, he took some time off and worked on his skills in both batting and bowling along with his step-dad, Paul Farbrace, who was England’s assistant coach for a long time. In the following year, Sussex included him in their side and in his debut innings for Sussex, he scored his maiden first-class century, which worked wonders to boost his confidence. This performance saw him get an offer for a two-year extension with Sussex. He went on to take 46 wickets in his debut season, with a best of 6 for 33 coming in a win against Warwickshire. He also had the versatility to bowl off-spin as well as his normal seam-up style.

In 2019, he furthered his reputation as one of the leading new-ball bowlers in the county system, taking 63 Championship wickets, including 8 for 34 against Middlesex. He continued the domination during the England Lions tour of Australia in early 2020, where he took seven wickets in a crushing win over Australia A at the MCG that earned him further attention, and he was a regular in England’s enlarged squads over the 12 months without quite managing to win a Test cap.

In 2021, during the County Championship, Robinson displayed his potential, as he was tremendous with the new ball. In the second game of the new season against Glamorgan, Robinson bagged 4 wickets and 9 wickets respectively in each innings, making this his personal best figures in a First-Class match and even managed to score a half-century in the process. In the next three games that followed, Ollie picked up 14 wickets. His impressive performance in the county earned him a spot in the squad to face New Zealand in June 2021. Robinson went on to make his debut in the Lord’s Test and made it memorable with a 4-wicket haul in his maiden outing.
