Pakistan Cricket team’s top stars are unhappy with PCB as no resolution remains over their contract future. The PCB central contracts expired on June 30 and Babar Azam and Co are playing in the SL vs PAK series without a deal in hand. Top Pakistan stars have demanded a massive hike while hoping for the entire system to be restructured to suit their needs.

As per Cricket Pakistan, no agreement on a contract extension has been signed by the players. Babar and Co in the meantime have presented a wide number of issues that they want to talk to Zaka Ashraf, the chair of the PCB management committee, about. While there were talks of a 45% raise when Najam Sethi was in charge, the players are seeking more rounded deals with benefits from PCB.

PCB Central Contracts: Player demands

  • Competitive pay as compared to other cricket boards
  • Family health insurance, education policy
  • Disclosure of sponsors, share from ICC event revenues
  • Transparency in NOC for foreign leagues’ participation

As per multiple reports, Pakistan cricket team stars are paid comparatively lesser compared to their rivals. Babar Azam, Pakistan skipper and World No.1 ODI bat, does not rank among the top 10 highest-earning cricketers globally. The players desire that the PCB do its own research and develop a structure that guarantees their long-term financial stability.

Participation in overseas leagues is also a standpoint. Previously, PCB has known to demand a fee of $25,000 per player for participation in MLC and Global T20 League. The players have questioned the fairness of the fee, given the players were only remunerated by contracts worth $ 5,000.

Discussions on the same are likely to be resumed after Pakistan Cricket Team return home. They are currently in Sri Lanka, playing in a two-Test series. The players have hope that Zaka Ashraf will take their concerns seriously and address them positively.
