The Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are yet to win the prestigious IPL trophy. Former DC coach and mentor Mohammad Kaif has blamed the franchises’ poor treatment of their players as the main reason behind their failure to win.
Talking with The Lallantop, Kaif criticized his former franchise, DC, and Virat Kohli’s RCB. He said, “When I was there, we went to the final in one season and finished in the top three in the other two seasons. I think the players are not getting backed properly. They are not able to identify players and back them. You can ask the same question of RCB.”
One can expect that Kaif is talking about the Delhi Capitals not backing players like Prithvi Shaw during his slump or letting go of Shreyas Iyer ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
The same happened before the IPL 2024 auction, when they released players like Phil Salt, Rilee Rossouw, Rovman Powell, Sarfaraz Khan, and Aman Khan. Neither of these players had a massive price tag attached to them, and they have since performed in the international arena as well.
Salt was recently picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders; Sarfaraz started his international career with a bang last month; Aman Khan was being touted by DC head coach Ricky Ponting as their next big thing; Powell is the West Indies T20I skipper; and Rossouvw is a proven franchise player.
