Players need to play at floating roles: Rashid Latif points out Pakistan’s flaws ahead of T20 WC

Latif batted in favour of reinstating Mohammad Rizwan as a wicketkeeper in place of Azam Khan.

Is Pakistan cricket losing their way right before the T20 World Cup? Babar Azam and co. are staring down the barrel after some dismal shows right before the tournament. Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has pointed out the areas where Pakistan are lacking. According to Latif, Pakistan lack flexibility, something that is needed in the T20 era.

Pakistan erring in combination: Latif

They are not getting their combination right, which is their biggest problem. Not only shuffle, but players need to be prepared to play at floating roles now in T20 cricket as per the match situation,” the former captain Rashid Latif said, according to Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan choosing the wrong wicketkeeper?

In addition, Latif expressed his desire for Mohammad Rizwan to take Azam Khan’s place as wicketkeeper.

The team has two wicketkeepers, Usman Khan and Rizwan. I suggest that wicketkeeping should be done by a senior player,” he said.

Rizwan was running the game from behind for the last four years [but] now you have removed that guard,” he added.

They recently lost the 4-match T20I series against England 2-0 with the other two games being washed away. Prior to that, they scraped a 2-1 win over Ireland. Out of the 4 T20I series Pakistan have played, that is the team’s only series win in 2024. Other than the England and Ireland series, they lost against New Zealand 4-1, and drew another series 2-2. Babar Azam and his team start their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against USA on June 6.
