Former India cricketer Anjum Chopra opines that Rohit Sharma’s replacement as Mumbai Indians skipper with Hardik Pandya was bound to happen. The veteran points out that it is all about balacing from the point of view of the franchise. She heaps praise on Rohit’s reign as the MI skipper and the accolades collected so far.
Chopra backs Hardik Pandya over Rohit Sharma as MI skipper
“A players job is to play the game. You always walk into the team as a player. You never walk into the team as a captain. How we are seeing it from outside, how the franchise is looking from inside, and now players are looking at it, they have their reasons. It wouldn’t be easy to replace a player and captain the stature of Rohit Sharma. But someday that will happen,” Chopra told TOI.
“When Rohit was given captaincy of Mumbai Indians, it wouldn’t have been a very easy decision. At a time when many stalwarts and experienced players were playing, he was handed the captaincy. MI gave him the captaincy because of his ability and he went on to lead the team to five title wins. So, it is not about how we from the outside think, it’s about franchises from inside think. It is about balacing things, considering the present and future of the team,” she adds.
Mumbai Indians captain unbothered by media
Maintaining a distance from social media and media commentary is also important to Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya. He stated, “Main kabhi media mein comment karta nahi hu, to maine kabhi kia nahi, na mereko fadak padta hai (I don’t comment in media, I have never done it, it does not bother me).“
