However, his international career never really took off, especially due to MS Dhoni’s presence in the India team. Karthik, also a wicketkeeper-batsman, had to stay under Dhoni’s shadows and when he got his chance, he never really deliver always. But even then, he has played some memorable innings in India colours. Be it the Nidhas Trophy final or the Test series win or England, Karthik made his presence felt. Check Dinesh Karthik’s Test Record, ODI Record, T20I Record, IPL Record.

Dinesh Karthik’s International Debut: The wicketkeeper-batsman made his India debut against England in the 2004 ODI series when he was still a teenager and MS Dhoni was yet to make his debut. During his time in India colours, Karthik scored a Test century apart from 9 half-centuries. In One-day cricket, Karthik has nine fifties. In T20I, however, he has been consistent, scoring at a fine average of 33.25. His wicketkeeping skills were too not enough to match Dhoni’s and that kept him in and out of Team India.

Dinesh Karthik’s Test Record: Soon after his ODI debut, Karthik got his chance in India’s Test team with Sourav Ganguly still experimenting with the wicketkeeping options. He made his debut against Australia in 2004 but wasn’t really successful, managing only one 50+ score in 10 matches and he was soon dropped. Overall, he has scored 1,025 runs in Tests at a modest average of 25.
Dinesh Karthik’s ODI Record: While he was out of the Test squad with Parthiv Patel preferred in Dhoni’s absence, Karthik became the second-choice keeper in limited-overs cricket. But again, his inconsistencies and failure to deliver on the promise limited his international caps to 94.
Dinesh Karthik’s T20I Record: However, Karthik’s T20I record is rather decent. In the 26 innings that he has batted in, he has scored 399 runs at an average of 33.25 at India’s middle-order. While he has never scored a half-century in Team India colours, his 29 off just eight balls against Bangladesh in the Nidhas Trophy final was a glimpse of his immense talent.

Dinesh Karthik’s IPL Record: Karthik finally found some solace in IPL. He has played for six franchises but has been successful with Delhi franchise and Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring nearly 4,000 runs at an average of 26.01 and a strike rate of 129.64.
