The ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is coming to an end with the final match to be played between India and South Africa. In the inaugural season of the tournament, Pakistan’s legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi was awarded the T20 World Cup player of the tournament. In the second edition of the T20 World Cup, Pakistan won the tournament, however, Sri Lankan batter Tillakaratne Dilshan clinched the award. In 2010, the award went first time to the winning squad as England batter Kevin Pietersen claimed the award.
Interestingly, Virat Kohli is the only player who has won the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award twice and too consecutive years in 2014 and 2016. In the previous edition of the T20 World Cup 2022, Sam Curran was awarded the trophy of ‘Player of the Tournament’.
