PCB tries hard to make PSL compete with IPL, wants franchises to sign big names for season 10: Report

As per Geo Super, the PSL franchises will be allowed to sign one name, preferably a star player, outside the draft

Pakistan Cricket Board seems to have finally woken up from a slumber to allow its franchises in PSL to sign one big player each outside the draft, as per reports. If the move will come into place after the board headed by Mohsin Naqvi decides to go ahead with this approach it could potentially draw more attention towards PSL. The new approach that is likely to be adopted by Pakistan is similar to that of the policy followed by International League T20 (ILT20).

PSL to adopt new approach to counter IPL

As per Geo Super, the PSL franchises will be allowed to sign one name, preferably a star player, outside the draft. the report claims that big stars are likely to be attracted by the scheme, given the money involved. However, the report states that while Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) allows for unlimited signing of players outside the draft, the PSL is likely to allow only one player per franchise.

The present participation agreement between the PCB and the franchises will cease to exist in 2025. Post this, PCB can re-evaluate the value of the franchises and can even decide to include more franchises, which was previosuly opposed by the rest of the teams. It is to be noted that Pakistan Super League is expected to overlap with IPL 2025, owing to the Champions Trophy which will be held in February, forcing Pakistan to postpone PSL to after March 2025.

PSL vs IPL confirmed!

In a press release, the PCB confirmed that the PSL 2025 season will be held from April 7 to May 20 in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. The franchises were previously against the idea of hosting the event against the IPL, but the PCB has gone ahead with the decision despite their concerns.
