The Champions Trophy 2025 is in jeopardy due to a clash of egos. India has raised concerns about traveling to Pakistan for the tournament, prompting the International Cricket Council (ICC) to consider implementing a hybrid model similar to the one used for the Asia Cup 2023. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has opposed this model, insisting that the tournament should be held entirely by the host nation.
The tournament is proposed to be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9. However, India’s participation will come with conditions, as they would not travel to Pakistan.
PCB want to host complete tournament
The PCB will oppose the hybrid model if it is brought up at the ICC’s annual conference in Colombo from July 19 to 22, according to Cricket Pakistan reports.
India has a clear stance that they will not travel to Pakistan for any series or tournament. There are reports that India would like to demand their matches of the Champions Trophy to be held in the UAE.
At the same time, they have expressed their desire to participate in the Champions Trophy. Therefore, it is expected that at the meeting, the BCCI will propose the hybrid model, and with their influence in the board, it is anticipated that it will be accepted.

Who will ICC favour?
A similar dilemma occurred for the ICC during the Asia Cup 2023 when the BCCI refused to travel to Pakistan. The ICC proposed a hybrid model, which was accepted by both parties. However, Pakistan missed out on hosting the semi-final and final matches.
Wha to expect from ICC’s annual conference?
One proposed solution is to designate Karachi as the sole venue, facilitating easier travel to Dubai. Another agenda item for the meeting could be moving India and Pakistan into separate groups. According to the proposed schedule by Pakistan, India and the host nation are in the same group as Bangladesh and New Zealand. Group B would comprise Australia, Afghanistan, England, and South Africa.
