When Babar Azam stepped down from the captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team, it was believed that PCB mounted pressure on him to do so. But contrary to the general belief, the truth is just the opposite. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday cleared the air, while talking to the media, during the announcement of new PAK skippers.
He went on to reveal that no one forced Babar Azam to leave the captaincy of the white-ball formats. Meanwhile, it as on October 2, that the former skipper had made his decision public. He had gone on to cite, “significant workload” as the reason to do so.
“Babar Azam told me himself that he did not want to continue as captain. No one from the PCB told him to leave captaincy. He discussed it with himself with the coaches and wanted to focus on his performances,” Mohsin Naqvi said in the press conference on Sunday.
“We spoke to the 5 mentors of the Champions Cup and the coaches and the majority of them believed that Mohammad Rizwan should be the captain and Salman Ali Agha the vice-captain of the side,” he further added. As of now, Mohammad Rizwan has been named the ODI captain, while Salman Ali Agha is the T20I captain for Pakistan.
