Pakistan Cricket Team are likely to continue playing without a central contract during the Asia Cup 2023, but an agreement before the World Cup 2023 is likely. The PCB central contracts expired on June 30, and Babar Azam and Co are playing the SL vs PAK series without a deal in place. The players are seeking a revamp of the current system, seeking a meeting with PCB chief Zaka Ashraf.

The issue of player contracts remains since the days of Najam Sethi and as per Cricket Pakistan, Zaka Ashraf is keen to put this matter to bed. A meeting between Ashraf and Pakistan Cricket Team was mooted, with the players raising several concerns. Babar and Co believe they are being underpaid compared to cricketers from other countries. The PCB is keen to discuss the demands but a meeting is likely to be delayed due to schedule.

Pakistan players are currently in Sri Lanka, playing a two-Test series. Following the conclusion of the SL vs PAK series, Babar Azam and Co will take part in the Lanka Premier League. Right after LPL 2023 is the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The team then returns to Pakistan and talks are likely to take place then. Ashraf has instructed officials to see that the legitimate needs of the players are satisfied. There will be an increase in match fees and monthly salary. The demand for insurance might also be taken into account. However, PCB might not be able to use ICC money right away. A discussion on this issue will take place, as per Cricket Pakistan.
