PCB bows down to BCCI, Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in hybrid model

PCB bows down to BCCI, Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in hybrid model

The official confirmation will come after the conclusion of the ICC meeting, which will be held at 5 PM IST in Dubai.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has ceded to the demands of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Champions Trophy 2025 will now be held in a hybrid model, with the India cricket team playing their matches in a neutral venue. The PCB has talked with the Emirates Cricket Board, and in all likelihood, Team India’s matches will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

ICC Champions Trophy in hybrid model

According to Cribuzz, PCB has agreed to the BCCI’s demands, which will become official after the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting with all 15 member boards happens today (December 5) in Dubai. The tête-à-tête was organized to introduce the newly elected ICC Chairman, Jay Shah, but the Champions Trophy 2025 will be one of the main discussion points of the meeting.

India will play 3 group-stage matches (Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh), which will now be held in a neutral venue. The high-octane India vs Pakistan match will happen on March 1, as per the previously proposed schedule. If India qualifies for the knockout stages, those matches will be played outside Pakistan as well. However, PCB has also made some demands that the Champions Trophy 2025 will be played in a hybrid model.

PCB’s demands to BCCI & ICC

  • The Pakistan cricket team won’t play their matches in India
  • Compensation from ICC for moving 5 games outside of Pakistan
  • India plays a tri-series with Pakistan and another nation in a neutral venue (likely UAE)
  • India and Pakistan are named in separate groups of the Champions Trophy 2025

These demands have been put forth, but only one of them is expected to be accepted. The ICC will compensate PCB for the loss they’ll incur from moving matches outside of Pakistan, which will include the India vs Pakistan match at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. But all the other demands are expected to be rejected.
