PCB accepts to host ICC Champions Trophy in hybrid model, Colombo emerges as India vs Pakistan match venue

Dubai has long been reported as the chosen neutral venue to host India's matches in the Champions Trophy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have finally reached some mutual ground. The two cricket bodies have connived under the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) new chairman, Jay Shah, and it’s come to light that the PCB has at last accepted to host the ICC Champions Trophy in a hybrid model.

Champions Trophy hybrid model confirmed

According to the agreement, the India cricket team would play all of their matches at a neutral venue, and if they don’t qualify for the knockout stage, Pakistan would host the semifinals and the final of the Champions Trophy 2025. Furthermore, the BCCI won’t force the PCB to send the Pakistan cricket team to India for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, and the ICC will award a Women’s World Cup to Pakistan, which they’ll host post 2026.

As per Cricket Pakistan, BCCI and PCB have reached an agreement, and by Monday (December 16) we’ll have the official announcement from the ICC, and the Champions Trophy 2025 matter will be put to bed. There has already been a significant delay, as the schedule for the tournament was to be announced by November 11, and further delay would create challenges in organising the event.

Colombo to host India vs Pakistan match in 2026?

For a long time, it’s been thought that the India vs Pakistan match would be played in Dubai, UAE. But another name has emerged as the potential neutral venue for the ICC Champions Trophy. Colombo, the potential host for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and Pakistan, might just be the venue for the 8-team tournament as well. However, Dubai still remains the front-runner as the neutral venue, with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi holding a meeting with current ICC Director, Mubashir Usmani, recently.
