PBKS vs RR: Hetmyer takes Rajasthan to penultimate-ball win

Punjab Kings will take on Rajasthan Royals in match number 27 at Mullanpur, Mohali on Saturday

PBKS vs RR Live Updates: There you go. Rajasthan Royals maintained their top position in the IPL points as they registered a three-wicket win vs the Punjab Kings. Though it wasn’t a convincing win, RR showed that they are contenders for the IPL 2024 title.

Punjab Kings will take on Rajasthan Royals in match number 27 at Mullanpur, Mohali on Saturday. Samson and co, who are at the top of the table with four wins so far, will look to overcome a heartbreaking loss in the previous game to GT. On the other hand, PBKS are languishing at the 8th spot on the points table, having won only 2 games so far.

Who won yesterday’s IPL match?

After restricting Punjab to only 147 in 20 overs, Rajasthan crawled to a win and achieved the target in 19.5 overs. However, that was enough for the team to maintain their top position in the IPL points table. The stars of the match were the bowlers, who produced miserly spells, across teams. While Trent Boult and Keshav Maharaj were excellent with the ball for RR, Kagiso Rabada stood out for PBKS.

PBKS vs RR Live updates

Hetmyer takes RR to a win

After playing out two dots vs Arshdeep, Hetmyer comes up with a six. Next ball fetches two runs here. And he ends it with six. Finally, win comes RR’s way.

Hetmyer takes RR close

A six and a four in the Harshal Patel over means that Rajasthan are slightly ahead now. But hang on, Curran gets Powell. Still 12 are needed off 9.

Heading towards super over?

Curran has another wicket here. This time Keshav Maharaj is out for 1 from 2. Last over and just 10 runs needed.

Rajasthan crumbling

Harshal has a wicket and Jurel is out. Shashank Singh takes a stunning catch as RR is in deep trouble. It is 115/5.

Punjab back in the match

Parag tries to go for a big shot but ends up edging it. He is caught in the deep by Rabada, and that means, RR have made a mockery of the chase.

Match getting close

Is the pitch really that bad for batting? The runs are hard to come by. 30 balls to go and 49 runs still to get.

Trouble calling?

Another one perishes. Rabada claims Sanju Samson for 18, and we have a match in our hands. Now in the 14th over, RR need 59 from 40.

This match..

It would not be unfair to concede that Rajasthan would face no issues to chase down the target. However, Jaiswal is caught in the deep by Harshal. He is out for 39, as RR 82/2.

Punjab need more wickets

After 10 overs, RR are 66/1. They are way comfortable here, but need to speed up.

What should Punjab do

Punjab are desperately looking for wickets. And Kotian tries to go for a big one. He is out bowled by Livingstone. It is 56/1.

Punjab out of the match

We are into the seventh over now, and Rajasthan openers have looked as comfortable as ever. They score 43/0 after 6 overs.

RR comfortable

Punjab need a lot of wickets at the start, and that is completely the opposite of what they’re getting at the moment. RR 29/1 after 4 overs.

Rajasthan start

Jaiswal and Kotian start the innings here for Rajasthan and obviously it is not a tall ask. They have still started well. It is 14/0 after 2 overs.

Innings over

It looked like Punjab won’t even cross 130 here, but here they have managed 147/8. All because of Ashutosh Sharma who scored 31 off 16. PBKS end with 147/8.

Missed chance

What is happening here. Sanju Samson is involved in yet another mix up with a fielder. This time it is Avesh, as they drop Ashutosh Sharma.

Look at these boss figures

And there we go. Livinstone is run out for 21 from 14. Punjab faring poorly.

Livingstone back

The English batter slams two big sixes in Kuldeep Sen over, and then in the very next over Avesh gets Jitesh. PBKS 103/6 in 16.1 overs.

Weird

We are nearing the end of the first innings by PBKS, and one wonders, why wasn’t Jitesh Sharma named the stand-in skipper when he is the vice-captain?

PBKS 93/2 in 15.2 overs.

Collapse on, PBKS batters have no answers

Punjab Kings’ batters are struggling to get going, with half the side back in the dug out already. PBKS are 72/5 in 13 overs

PBKS struggle at halfway mark

Punjab Kings are struggling to get going after 10 overs as RR bowlers strangle batters. PBKS are 62/4

Maharaj mania at Mullanpur!

Keshav Maharaj strikes once again, this time to get rid of PBKS skipper Sam Curran. The Kings are 53/4

Make it 3

Maharaj has a first wicket here. It cannot go worse for Team Punjab here. It looks one-sided. The score has now moved to 50/3 in 9 overs.

Chahal 198

Chahal comes and he has a wicket here. Prabhsimran Singh departs for 10 as PBKS are 41/2.

Punjab struggle

The scoring rate has been poor from Punjab. The boundaries have dried up already and PBKS are looking at 150 for now. The score moves to 38/1 after 6 overs,

Out

Avesh Khan has a wicket here. Taide skies one and Kuldeep Sen and Sanju Samson nearly collide. After 3.4 overs it is 27/1.

Slow start

Runs look hard to come by for now. Punjab should at least be aiming to get 180 here. After 3 overs, the score moves to 26/0.

What do you think

Excellent start

Trent Boult comes up with a miserly first over. Just four runs come from the over. It is 4/0 after the 1st over.

What’s this

There is no Yashasvi Jaiswal in playing XI, but in impact sub. What can be the reasons?

Playing XIs

RR: Sanju Samson(w/c), Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Tanush Kotian, Keshav Maharaj, Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, Kuldeep Sen, Yuzvendra Chahal

PBKS: Jonny Bairstow, Atharva Taide, Prabhsimran Singh, Sam Curran(c), Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma(w), Shashank Singh, Harpreet Brar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada

Curran says

Shikhar picked up a niggle, that’s why I’m here. We would have bowled first as well, but we’ll now have to put the runs on the board. The balance has been good, we’d have liked to win a few more games, but the middle-order looks good, especially Shashank and Ashutosh. We’ve got exciting players and plenty of quality. We’ve Atharva Taide coming in for Shikhar tonight, Livingstone is back as well

Dhawan out, Curran leads

So Rajasthan have opted to bowl here and there are a few changes in the playing XIs for both teams.

Toss time

We are just minutes away from toss. Looks like a win the toss, and opt to bat first. But there will be assistance for bowlers, for sure.

PBKS vs RR pitch report

The wicket at the Mullanpur stadium provides some seam movement with the new ball. However, the batting becomes easy once the ball gets a little old. The average score at the venue is around 175 and the skipper winning the toss might prefer to have a bowl first and chase the total later on.
