PBKS vs GT: IPL 2023 Live: “The comeback is always powerful than the failure”, is what we have heard many times in our lives. Sometimes a setback pushes us hard to make a big comeback and that is what Mohit Sharma did on Thursday in IPL 2023. The pacer, who last played an IPL match in 2020, made a remarkable comeback in the tournament as he finished with the best figures in the Gujarat Titans lineup against Punjab Kings at Mohali. In his first IPL match since 2020, Mohit picked up 2 for 18 from his four overs to help Gujarat Giants restrict Punjab to 153 for 8. For those who don’t know, Mohit joined Titans as a net bowler last year after going unsold in IPL 2022 Mega Auction. While many thought the 34-year-old’s career was done and dusted, Sharma proved did the hard yard and made a return to IPL after getting picked in IPL 2023 mini-auction, where GT bid to eventually buy him at his base price of Rs 50 lakh.

Ahead of the game, Mohit talked about his IPL return and expressed excitement on making a comeback after 2 years.
“There was excitement, but also nervousness about making a comeback after a few years. Have played domestic cricket in between. Last year I played domestic returning from a back surgery. Not many people knew I played domestic. Got a call from Ashu pa to stay with the team. I thought it would be better than staying at home (about being a net bowler for GT last year). Being a net bowler is not a bad thing. Gives you a lot of exposure. The environment at GT is brilliant”, Mohit said.
Notably, Mohit made his IPL debut in 2013 for CSK and was part of the squad till 2015. The 34-year-old also won the Purple Cap in 2014 under MS Dhoni when he picked 23 wickets in 16 matches for Chennai Super Kings. He was then roped in by Kings XI Punjab in 2016 for three seasons and returned to Super Kings in 2019, but played just one game. Mohit last played in the IPL for Delhi Capitals in 2020.
Talking about the game, Gujarat Titans registered a 6-wicket win against Punjab Kings. The star of the show for Gujarat Titans was Shubman Gill, who played a brilliant innings of 67 runs off just 49 balls.
Batting first, Punjab Kings posted a total of 153/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite some contributions from Matthew Short, Jitesh Sharma, Shahrukh Khan, and Sam Curran, the team failed to put up a challenging total on the board.
In response, Gujarat Titans got off to a flying start with Wriddhiman Saha providing the perfect platform with his explosive batting. However, Saha’s innings was cut short by Kagiso Rabada, who became the fastest player to claim 100 wickets in IPL history. But, Shubman Gill took charge and played a brilliant knock to guide his team to victory.
