PBKS vs DC Pitch Report: Batting paradise expected at Mullanpur Cricket Stadium

The match will serve as an official inauguration of the stadium, despite it hosting Syed Mushtaq Ali, Vijay Hazare, and Ranji Trophy matches since its creation in 2021.

PBKS vs DC Pitch Report: It’s a new beginning for the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Apart from changing jerseys and players, the franchise has also decided to switch up their home ground as well. The Shikhar Dhawan-led side has decided to move from the IS Bindra Stadium to the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, commonly known as Mullanpur Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. The stadium, with a capacity of 33,000, will be officially inaugurated on March 23, when the two teams take the field.

The change in venues raises the question: how will this new surface play? While one can’t certainly predict the nature of the pitch, PBKS‘ past preferences do allow us to make an educated guess.

PBKS vs DC Pitch Report: What to expect in the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium?

Despite a few matches played here, both in white and red ball cricket, no adequate data is available to ascertain how the pitch will play. However, it won’t be far-fetched to say that the pitch at the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium may aid the batters more.

One can make an educated guess based on PBKS’ past trends. Last season, they prepared batting paradises in Mohali. In the last two home matches Punjab played, a 200-run mark was crossed in every inning. This also included the Lucknow Super Giants’ 257, which is the second-highest total in the IPL’s history.

One can’t factor in dew without actually seeing it in effect. But considering the pitch’s high-scoring nature, whoever wins the toss will likely opt to bat second.
