PBKS ‘unlikely’ to retain vice-captain Jitesh Sharma ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma is not sure if he will be retained by Punjab Kings for IPL 2025 and is yet to receive a word from the franchise

Punjab Kings vice-captain Jitesh Sharma is still awaiting to hear from the franchise over his retention for IPL 2025. All the teams have been given an October 31 deadline to submit their retention list before the mega auction. Sharma, who was the vice-captain for PBKS in IPL 2024, has no idea if he will continue to be a part of the team in 2025. The IPL 2025 mega auction will take place in late November or early December and is expected to be held overseas.

Will Punjab Kings retain Jitesh Sharma for IPL 2025?

Jitesh Sharma has also captained Punjab Kings in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan before going on to become Sam Curran’s deputy. He joined PBKS before IPL 2022 as the team picked him up for Rs 20 lakhs. With Punjab Kings eyeing to hit the restart button ahead of IPL 2025, it remains to be seen if Jitesh Sharma will be a part of their plans.

Let’s see. If I am in their plans, they will retain me; otherwise, they won’t because I have not received any communication yet from Punjab Kings,” Jitesh Sharma said, as per Times of India.

Primarily playing the role of a finisher, Jitesh Sharma has amassed 730 runs from 40 IPL matches so far. His best season came in 2023 where he made 309 runs with the bat, with a high score of 49. He has been consistent with the bat for PBKS, adding depth to the batting order that was boosted by the likes of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma in IPL 2024.

Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada are sure shot retentions for PBKS while the side will also look to retain Ashutosh and Shashank as well. Should the franchise decide to retain Jitesh Sharma, it is likely that the Right to Match (RTM) route will be taken.
