Sandeep Sharma leaked 41 runs without any returns against RR while Kagiso Rabada was equally poor. The only shining light was Arshdeep Singh, who managed to contain the runs while also picking up two wickets.
With Brabourne Stadium being the graveyard of bowlers, Mayank Agarwal has gone for an additional spin option in Harpreet Brar. The left-arm spinner has not had a good time this season. He has went wicketless in the two matches he has played, but this is the ideal moment for Brar to make his mark.
PBKS Playing XI vs RCB: Problems Mayank needs to solve
- Batter Mayank Agarwal will need to step up his game and look to find runs on the board.
- He has managed to score just 176 runs from 10 games with an average of 19.55.
- Misfiring Jonny Bairstow is another problem. Although he smashed 56 against RR in the last match, PBKS will look at him to do the bulk of hitting duty in the powerplay.
- Shikhar Dhawan, undoubtedly, is doing what he is best at but his strike rate inside the powerplay isn’t the best.
- Kagiso Rabada is another player who has misfired far too often.
- Although amongst wickets, Rabada was hammered for 50 runs in his four overs and at the Brabourne, that could go up. He has to be defensive as well against Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik.

Onus on Bairstow to carry form – Jonny Bairstow has been a player who can change the complexion of the game when he goes hitting. However, the British batter has failed to find the sweet contact of the willow with the leather. Bairstow scored a wonderful 56 against RR which ended in a losing effort. Agarwal believes Bairstow is just one match away from turning things around which he did in the previous game.
Bairstow has scored over 1000 runs for SRH while opening at an impressive strike rate of 143. However, it is quite unsure whether Bairstow would be able to repeat his antics. With everything at stake for PBKS, Mayank Agarwal will be touted to gamble with the likes of Shahrukh Khan to get a chance.
Jonny Bairstow in IPL 2022- 136 runs in 8 matches at 17
Shahrukh Khan in IPL 2022– 98 runs in 7 matches at 16.33

Punjab Kings (8th, 10 Points): Punjab Kings are on the verge of elimination. Their 6-wicket loss against Rajasthan Royals dented their hopes. They need to win all three remaining matches to be in the hunt and have to win big to improve NRR. But even after winning all three games, they can be eliminated.
- PBKS have to win all three remaining matches.
- PBKS will also have to improve their NRR which stands at -0.231.
- Two wins in three matches or 14 points won’t be enough for them to qualify.
- PBKS Remaining Matches: RCB, DC, SRH
