Punjab Kings (PBKS) emerged as one of the headline makers on Day 1 of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The Lions of Punjab roared their way through the auction room, making a statement with ten new acquisitions while holding onto two of their trusted warriors (Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar) from the previous campaign. The auction floor witnessed history in the making as PBKS broke the bank for Shreyas Iyer, securing the stylish right-hander for an eye-watering Rs 26.75 crore – a figure that momentarily stood as the highest-ever bid in IPL auction history.
PBKS entered the day with the huge purse of Rs 110.50 crore. They thoroughly dominated the auctions as they even racked up Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal at Rs 18 crore each. Glenn Maxwell was their steal buy at just Rs 4.0
. Having said that, they have gaping hopes to fill. In fact, their four buys were the lowest by any franchise on Day 1 of the IPL 2025 Auction.

PBKS: Gaps to fill at IPL Auction 2025 Day 2
PBKS IPL 2025: Need Overseas Picks ft. Sam Curran, Will Jacks
Punjab Kings have positioned themselves well with their Day 1 acquisitions, but several crucial gaps remain to be addressed on Day 2. They have their core settled. Now, their primary focus will be on filling their six remaining overseas slots, with a particular emphasis on finding a versatile all-rounder for the number 7 position. The franchise could potentially use their remaining purse to target Sam Curran through RTM, given their need for a bowling all-rounder. Will Jacks shouldn’t be a bad option either, as PBKS need another opening partner for Prabhsimran Singh.
Need bowlers ft. Chahar, Coetzee
The team also needs to strengthen their pace bowling department. While they have secured Indian talents in Arshdeep Singh, Yash Thakur, and Vijaykumar Vyshak, they’ll be looking to add overseas fast bowling options to provide variety and depth. Some options for the same are: Fazalhaq Farooqi, Nathan Ellis, Gerald Coetzee, Naveen-ul-Haq, Spencer Johnson and many more. Amon Indians, they should look at Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Akash Deep. Additionally, PBKS might explore acquiring overseas top-order options to provide flexibility in their batting order. Need some backup spinners to Yuzi Chahal too!
With a remaining purse of Rs 22.50 crore and 13 slots to fill, PBKS will need to be strategic in their Day 2 purchases to build a well-rounded squad capable of challenging for their first IPL title.
