Pat Cummins was the toast of the cricketing world after he bagged a record-shattering Rs 20.50 score bid from Sunrisers Hyderabad who outshone three other bids at the IPL 2024 Auction on Tuesday.
Pat Cummins, the Australian captain, does not have an outstanding IPL record and his last stint with Kolkata Knight Riders was hardly memorable. In the five matches he played for them in IPL 2022, Cummins only had a half-century to show for and was largely disappointing with the world.
However, Pat Cummins has had an outstanding 2023 as captain. Under his leadership, Australia defeated India in the finals of the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup besides successfully defending the Ashes in England.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri was among the first to congratulate Pat Cummins and said the Australia captain deserved the historic bid.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins said he was excited to join the Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he will also link up with Australian teammate Travis Head.
“Pumped to be joining SRH for the upcoming IPL. Have heard a lot about the Orange Army. I have played in Hyderabad a few times, so I can’t wait to get started. It’s great to see another Aussie in Travis Head over there as well. I think we are going to have a lot of fun this season and hopefully plenty of success,” Cummins said via a video which was uploaded on X by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Pat Cummins will dominate headlines in the 2024 IPL given his record-breaking fee. A fan on social media broke down Cummins’s figures and explained how he will end up making Rs 4 lakh per delivery in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
While a few eyerbrows were raised after Pat Cummins bagged the record contract, former England captain Eoin Morgan said teams were desperate to get on board a strong captain.
