Pat Cummins said he was “pumped” to join Sunrisers Hyderabad after fetching a historic Rs 20.50 crore bid. The Australian captain shattered the record books and upstaged Englishman Sam Curran who had previously held the record for the most expensive bid at any IPL auction with Rs 18.50 crore.
Pat Cummins saw an intense bidding war from four teams before Sunrisers Hyderabad secured his services for the record fee.
However, a few eyebrows were raised when Pat Cummins finished with that kind of money but the one man who wasn’t complaining was – Pat Cummins.
“Pumped to be joining SRH for the upcoming IPL. Have heard a lot about the Orange Army. I have played in Hyderabad a few times, so I can’t wait to get started. It’s great to see another Aussie in Travis Head over there as well. I think we are going to have a lot of fun this season and hopefully plenty of success,” Cummins said via a video which was uploaded on X by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Pat Cummins has played 42 matches in the Indian Premier League and does not boast of a great record. He played only 5 matches in the 2022 IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders and was largely disappointing apart from a solo half-century.
In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Pat Cummins was rather ordinary until the knockouts when he picked 3 wickets in the semifinal against New Zealand and 2 wickets against India in the final.
Pat Cummins, however, did attract major attention because of his captaincy skills. Under his leadership, Australia won the World Test Championship, successfully defended the Ashes in England and then won the ODI World Cup final against India.
