Veteran AB de Villiers has opined that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) should stick with Aiden Markram as their captain despite roping in the World Cup winning skipper Pat Cummins ahead of the IPL 2024. To note, Pat Cummins was purchased for a whopping sum of INR 20.50 crore in the recently concluded IPL 2024 Auction. The deal not only made him one of the most expensive players in the IPL history but his name also emerged as the strong contender to lead the Orange Army in the upcoming edition.
“I will still go with Aiden Markram as captain. I’ve played with this guy before. He’s got a very, very good leadership brain on his head. I think he’ll do better this season, and that’s it. And as well. And it has got a very good squad to work with,” said De Villiers on his YouTube channel.
SRH should reach playoffs: De Villiers
De Villiers also spoke on SRH having some big overseas names in their line-up as he felt that the Orange Army looks quite balanced. He also backed Hyderabad to reach the playoffs of IPL 2024.
“I don’t think the eight overseas players that you’re talking about being big stars is a problem. I think they have a very, very good squad, very well-balanced. I think they’re gonna make the knockouts this year. I want my calls to to go all the way and be there at the back end of the IPL,” De Villiers added.
