Pat Cummins, David Warner power Australia to victory vs Bangladesh in rain-interrupted match

Cummins took a hattrick to help Australia restrict Bangladesh to 140 while Warner slammed another half-century to ensure Aussies maintained their all-win record.

Australia on Friday started their T20 World Cup Super Eight campaign with a 28-run victory over Bangladesh in a rain-curtailed match at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda. Courtesy of the win, Australia joined India at the top of Group 1 table with two points in one match.

Cummins magic flatten Bangladesh

Australia won the toss and chose to field first. After losing opener Tanzid Hasan, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Shanto put up resistance by scoring 41 runs of 36 balls. Towhid Hridoy chipped in with a 28-ball 40. However, Pat Cummins broke the spine of the Bangladesh batting line-up by taking a hattrick. Bangladesh finished at 140 runs.

David Warner in form of his life

Chasing 141, Aussie openers David Warner and Travis Head started with their usual onslaught as the target looked too less for the ODI World Champions. After Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh got out, Maxwell played a quickfire innings of 14 off 6 balls. The Aussies looked well on-course to chase the target when rain interrupted proceedings. Australia were 100/2 in 11.2 overs.

After the match could not be resumed, the Aussies were ruled to be the winner of the match via DLS method. They were ahead of the DLS target by 28 runs when rain stopped play.
