Reigning World Champion Neeraj Chopra is all set to begin his preparations for the upcoming Paris Olympics. The Tokyo Olympic champion will head to Potchefstroom in South Africa this month to train for his Olympic title defence.
According to a report in Times of India, Neeraj had submitted a proposal to Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). He sought permission to train at the North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
As per the report, Neeraj’s proposal has been approved. He will be training in South Africa for a period of 85 days. His training is set to begin from 5th December 2023 and will go in till 29th February 2024. He will then be shifting his base to Europe.

The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) approved Neeraj Chopra’s proposal worth Rs 27.67 lakh earlier this week. He will be accompanied by coach Dr Klaus Bartonietz and pysiotherapist Ishaan Marwaha.
Neeraj Chopra enjoyed a terrific season in 2023. The year saw him become the first Indian athlete to win a gold at the World Athletics Championships. He also defended his Asian Games gold. Meanwhile in the Diamond League Final, he ended up as the runner-up after winning the Doha and Lausanne legs earlier in the year.
