Former Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu pinned the blame of LSG’s spinners for their defeat against DC. Rishabh Pant’s stint as captain in a new franchise started off on a losing note as Delhi Capitals handed them a 1-wicket defeat. Rayudu minced no words while analyzing what cost LSG the game and refused to blame Pant’s captaincy for the defeat.
Not Pant but LSG spinners responsible for loss: Rayudu
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Rayudu opined that Pant had attempted to do what MS Dhoni would have done on a similar track in the game against DC. He pointed fingers at the LSG spinners and blamed them for the loss. The ex-CSK star claimed that it was the failure of the spinners & not Pant’s captaincy which let the team down.
“I think he (Pant) was trying to do what Dhoni used to do, on wickets like that. Especially bowling spinners in the end. And his spinners actually let him down, to be very honest. I don’t think it is the captaincy, I think it is the bowling execution that has let him and LSG down,” Rayudu said.
How DC staged miraculous comeback
Chasing 210, DC were rattled early when they lost Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhisek Porel in the first over to Shardul Thakur. They were in further trouble after Manimaran Siddharth dismissed Abhishek Porel for a duck.
Faf du Plessis (29), Axar Patel (22) and Stubbs (34) brought DC closer to the target. But it was Vipul Nigam and Ashutosh Sharma who hammered the final nail in the coffin. The duo added 55 runs in less than 4 overs to bring the Delhi Capitals chase back on track. While Ashutosh continued to amass runs, for some inexplicable reason, Pant did not bring on Shardul Thakur. The job of bowling the final over went to Shahbaz Ahmed, whose slot ball was sent to the sight screen by Ashutosh for a six and a win for the ages.
