Pakistan’s pace attack a worry as T20 World Cup 2024 nears

Pakistan's top speedsters, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah, and Abbas Afridi, collectively gave away 162 runs in the 2nd T20I against Ireland.

Despite their hard fought victory in the second T20I against Ireland, the Pakistan bowlers were subject to intense criticism from former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Ramiz Raja on Monday. Ireland scored 193/7 in the first innings after Pakistan’s top speedsters, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah, and Abbas Afridi, collectively gave away 162 runs.

Ramiz unhappy with Pakistan’s pace quartet

Ramiz criticized Pakistan‘s pacers for leaking runs at a high economy rate throughout the innings in their match against Ireland. The 61-year-old believes that the hosts would have been in the driver’s seat if they had managed to hold on to Muhammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman’s catch.

They conceded 200 runs against Ireland and it seemed as if our bowlers were behind, If they had taken the catches of Rizwand and Zaman it would have become difficult for Pakistan to chase the target. Pakistan’s top bowlers giving away so many runs against Ireland, then it will become hard for the team in future. Pakistan’s forte, and success are based on the bowlers, especially pacers, they have been struggling since last year’s World Cup in India. Two balls are good and then three deliveries are bad, this makes the situation tough,” Ramiz said on his YouTube channel.
