Pakistan Cricket has a new leader for its pitches in Tony Hemming, who officially took charge on Monday. The former ICC head curator visited Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and met the ground staff for a detailed discussion on pitch preparation.
Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board appointed Tony Hemming. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has secured his expertise for the next two years, marking the first time they’ve offered such a long-term contract to a foreign curator. Coming from Australia, Hemming has a strong background, as he has worked as a pitch curator for nearly four decades.
This move by the PCB signifies a significant step towards improving pitch quality in the country, as they are going to host the Champions Trophy in 2025.
Preparation for Champions Trophy
The biggest reason behind Hemming’s appointment lies in the future. Pakistan is set to be the sole host of the Champions Trophy in 2025, marking the first time they’ve had this honour since co-hosting the Cricket World Cup in 1996. Hemming’s experience will be crucial in ensuring Pakistan presents top-notch pitches for this prestigious ICC tournament.
Focus on upcoming series
Hemming has been given the responsibility to prepare pitches for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh and England. Bangladesh will play two matches in Rawalpindi and Karachi, while England will face Pakistan in a three-match series later in October.
