Pakistan’s dressing room chat leaked? Gary Kirsten’s ‘no unity in team’ comment passed to press by players

Kirsten became the Pakistan cricket team's head coach on April 29 and joined the team on May 20. In under a month, the legendary South African coach has realized what's holding the team back from success.

The Gary Kirsten story is unfolding, and it has more twists and turns than a detective novel. Just hours after the Pakistan cricket team was knocked out, we heard that their head coach had made a shocking statement in which he claimed the Pakistan team had ‘no unity’ and the situation in the dressing room was the worst he’d seen in his coaching career.

Well, it turns out that wasn’t what he told a ‘source’. Instead, it turns out that Kirsten’s comment was part of his speech in the dressing room and was apparently leaked by either players in the team or the support staff. Both of these are concerning, but given how players have been allegedly divided into factions in the team, it won’t be shocking to know a player leaked the chat to the media.

Gary Kirsten clarifies

According to Pakistani journalist Asif Khan, Kirsten didn’t talk to any source or give the statement. He clearly stated that he has no social media accounts and that the only statements he makes are at press conferences. But those might just be his words. Faizan Lakhani, another Pakistani journalist, has claimed that the South African coach said those exact words, but in close quarters to the Pakistan team inside the dressing room.
