With less than six months to go for the ICC World Cup 2023, Pakistan’s squad for the mega event is starting to take shape. The selectors have been keeping a close eye on the performances of the players in the domestic and international matches, and have identified some key players who are likely to make the cut.

Sarfaraz Ahmed to find place in World Cup 2023 squad?

According to GeoSuper.TV, Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam and vice-captain Mohammad Rizwan are the first names on the list, followed by the pace trio of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali and Haris Rauf. The spin department will be led by Shadab Khan, who is also a handy batsman in the lower order. The other spinners in contention are Usman Qadir, Mohammad Nawaz and Zahid Mahmood.

The batting line-up will have some experienced players like Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez, who have been consistent performers in the ODI format. The middle order will also feature some young talents like Haider Ali, Saud Shakeel and Khushdil Shah, who have impressed with their skills and temperament. The wicket-keeping duties will be shared by Rizwan and Sarfaraz Ahmed, who is also a former captain and a valuable asset in the team.

No Shoaib Malik, Wahab Riaz!

However, some players who were part of the previous World Cup squad in 2019 may not find a place in the current one. These include Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir, who have either retired from international cricket or have been out of form or favour. The selectors may also look for some new faces who can provide some depth and variety to the squad.

The final squad of 15 players will be announced by the PCB after the conclusion of the National T20 Cup, which is scheduled to start from September 23. The World Cup 2023 will be held in India from October 8 to November 14.
