Wow! When the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was scheduled to happen in Pakistan, we knew the drama would unfold. The BCCI has remained firm on their decision of not to go to Pakistan to play the mega ICC event. Instead, they have written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to plan the tournament with a hybrid approach. Following this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has threatened to take legal action to the ICC Dispute Resolution Committee and may also contemplate pulling out of the ICC Champions Trophy.
Pakistan to boycott ICC events till 2031?
On the backdrop of all the saga going on between BCCI and PCB, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has said that the Pakistani government “may not allow” PCB to participate across all ICC events till 2031. Taking to his Twitter, Latif wrote, “According to sources, the government of Pakistan may not allow PCB to participate in any ICC event (2024-2031) if India does not participate in the ICC Champions Trophy or the Champions Trophy will be moved out from Pakistan.”
Despite Pakistan’s repeated appeals, the BCCI has maintained its firm position. Political tensions between the two countries have been a significant factor in India’s refusal to play in Pakistan. The last time the Indian cricket team visited Pakistan was for the Asia Cup in 2008. While Pakistan has consistently reassured the BCCI about security, the risk remains too great for them to accept
