Pakistan finally managed to snap out of their losing streak in T20Is with a 9-wicket win over New Zealand. Hasan Nawaz stayed unbeaten on 105 runs to power the visitors to a win over the Kiwis. Prior to this contest, Pakistan had lost 5 games consecutively.
Pakistan end losing streak
Pakistan lost their first out of their last 5 T20Is in the game against Zimbabwe in December 2024. They managed to win the 3-match series by a 2-1 margin but lost the last match. They were then handed a 2-0 defeat by South Africa, who secured wins by 11 runs and 7 wickets. The third game of the series was abandoned due to rain.
In the series against New Zealand, Pakistan collapsed to a new low in the 1st T20I. They were bowled out for their fifth lowest total in the shortest format of the game. After being bowled out for just 91 runs, New Zealand clinched a 9-wicket win in Christchurch. The hosts went 2-0 up the series after a 5-wicket win a rain-hit 2nd T20I in Dunedin.
It was in the 3rd T20I that Salman Ali Agha and co. finally managed to break free from the shackles of a losing streak. After restricting New Zealand to 204 runs, Pakistan managed to chase down the target in 16 overs. Hasan Nawaz led from the front, with an unbeaten 105-run knock off 45 deliveries. Captain Agha also stayed unbeaten on 51 runs at the end of the run-chase.
Pakistan have finally managed to bounce back after a miserable campaign in the Champions Trophy. Stars like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were excluded from the T20I series against New Zealand as repercussions for their dismal show in the ICC ODI event. With the win in Auckland, the Men in Green have made sure that they are still alive in the series.
