A question mark hangs over the participation of Quetta Gladiators’ exciting young spinner, Usman Tariq, in the remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches. Tariq has been reported for a suspect bowling action during his team’s encounter against Karachi Kings on Wednesday.

Usman Tariq: Reported but not suspended – Yet

While the report raises concerns, it doesn’t automatically disqualify Tariq from bowling. He has been given the green light to continue bowling in upcoming matches until a comprehensive bowling action test can be organized at a facility approved by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

However, any further reports during the PSL season will result in his immediate suspension from bowling.

Usman Tariq unorthodox action catches attention in PSL

This development comes as a surprise for many, especially considering Usman Tariq impressive debut season in the PSL 2024.

His unique bowling style, characterized by a near-complete halt at the peak of his delivery stride before unleashing off-spinners with a slinging, side-arm action, has grabbed the spotlight.

Early Success Despite Unusual Technique

Despite his unorthodox approach, Tariq has shown promise. He boasts a commendable economy rate of 5.73 in his three played matches, contributing to the Gladiators’ recent success. Currently, the team sits just one win away from securing their first PSL playoff berth in five years. Abrar Ahmed, another highly-rated spinner, is on the Gladiators’ roster, but Tariq has earned his place in the starting lineup for three consecutive matches.

Testing details remain unclear in PSL

The wait continues for confirmation regarding the date and venue for Tariq’s bowling action test. While Lahore houses an ICC-accredited biomechanics laboratory, logistical hurdles might arise due to the remaining PSL fixtures being scheduled for Karachi and Rawalpindi. Determining whether Usman Tariq will need to travel to Lahore before the tournament concludes remains unanswered.

Usman Tariq’s bowling action review throws a curveball at the Quetta Gladiators’ campaign. With the playoffs within reach, fans eagerly await news on the young spinner’s fate and whether he will be cleared to continue showcasing his unique skills on the PSL stage.
