Pakistan pin hopes on Saim Ayub’s recovery before Champions Trophy 2025, no thoughts on Fakhar Zaman yet

Saim Ayub is bound to London for treatment of his broken ankle but Pakistan are yet to consider roping in Fakhar Zaman for Champions Trophy 2025

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to send opener Saim Ayub to London for the treatment of his broken ankle. The young opener sustained an injury to his ankle during PAK vs SA Test series which will see him be out of action for at least six weeks. With just over a month to go for ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan are pinning all their hopes on Ayub’s recovery as he is the first-choice opener for the team across formats.

PCB to fly Saim Ayub to London for treatment

While Saim Ayub had gone on to become Pakistan’s first-choice opener across formats in the recent few months, his injury comes at an unfortunate time. Well, the young opener’s loss could turn out to be Zaman’s gain, and could pave way for his long-awaited return to the side. Now, the youngster faces a race against time to be fit for Champions Trophy 2025, something that is highly unlikely to happen. He will be accompanied by Azhar Mahmood to London for his treatment.

Saim Ayub will be checked up by the sports ortho specialist doctors in England as an immediate appointment has been made by the PCB. Saim’s treatment will be done in the best hospital in the world and in this regard all resources will be used for his treatment. We hope that the left-handed batter will make a full recovery before the ICC Champions Trophy,” the PCB said in a press release.

despite losing Ayub to injury, Pakistan has still not considered calling Fakhar Zaman back to the side. With 3492 runs from 82 ODIs, Zaman is indeed one of the best openers produced by Pakistan. averaging 46.45, he has 11 centuries and 16 fifties to his name. He is surely a better opening option for Pakistan instead of Abdullah Shafique who has been inconsistent. Had Fakhar Zaman paired up with Saim Ayub to be Pakistan opener, then the duo would surely have terrorized the rest of the teams and boost the batting line-up of Pakistan by a great extent.
