The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) continues to be adamant about pitting the IPL and PSL against each other in 2025. After rumors of the Pakistan Super League being hosted alongside its biggest competitor, the Indian Premier League, emerged a couple of days ago, PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that they’ll host their biggest event alongside the highest-earning cricket event.
PSL ready to challenge IPL: PCB Chief
Mohsin Naqvi, who assumed the role of PCB Chief in February, is ready to take on the BCCI. Instead of going against the SA20 or IILT20, Naqvi has decided that the PSL will go against the ISL in March and April 2025.
“PSL is Pakistan’s brand which is why it will get its due importance. Holding PSL 10 alongside international commitments will be a challenge but we are ready for it,” Naqvi said.

Why is PCB risking its biggest earner?
The reason behind the Pakistan Cricket Board hosting the PSL in March and April is their domestic scheduling. In January 2025, their tour of South Africa will end, and then they’ll head to New Zealand for a limited-overs tour. The next month (February), they’ll play a triangular ODI series with New Zealand and South Africa. Once that ends, the Champions Trophy 2025, the first ICC event to be held in Pakistan since 1996, will commence, which will run from late February to early March.
They could hold the event in early January, but that’ll mean that they’ll clash against the SA20. If they hold the event in early January, they’ll cut off the only resting period for their players and potentially injure them as well. Instead, they have opted to risk losing players and revenue by holding the PSL 2025 season during the IPL.
