PSL 2023: Islamabad United (ISU) skipper and Pakistan’s current vice-captain Shadab Khan has become a favourite of the journalists in the post-match press conferences in the Pakistan Super League 2023. Whether it be about his performances since he got married or about Pakistan’s head coach and his father-in-law Saqlain Mushtaq. The leg-spinner has responded to the journalists’ googlies with great poise. Something similar happened in Lahore on Thursday, March 16 after Peshawar Zalmi (PSZ) beat Islamabad United (ISU) by 12 runs. Shadab who will be the stand-in for Babar Azam as the Pakistan captain in their upcoming series against Afghanistan was asked how he felt losing to the ‘former captain’ in the PSL 2023 eliminator.
Shadab addressed the ‘former captain’ remark in a clear-cut manner.
Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi (PSZ) prevailed over Islamabad United (ISU) in the first eliminator of the PSL 2023 by 12 runs and in the post-match press conference, a reporter asked Shadab about his thoughts on being beaten by the former captain. Shadab clearly stated that Babar is still the captain of the Pakistan national team and he is just stepping in for one series as the regular skipper is resting.
I love the Unity in Pakistan cricket team. I love how Shadab Khan backed Babar Azam as captain and called himself his Wazir, and called Babar Azam Badshah👑♥️. #shadabkhan #PSL8 #PSL2023 #HBLPSL2023 #PSL08 #BabarAzam #BabarAzam𓃵 pic.twitter.com/U4zlsgR1Ih

Babar Azam the captain
“Voh kaptan tha, vahi kaptan jeet gaya. Humara current kaptan wahi hai. Jis tarah, aapko humare chairman sahab ne bataya, wahi current captain hain. Abhi woh rest kar rahe hain, aap logon ko pata bhi chala hoga. Kyunki main uska wazir hun, Badshah humara hai nahi toh wazir jaa raha hai, uske niche (He was the captain and he won. Babar is still our captain and our chairman also told you guys that he is the current captain of the team. He is resting, so I have stepped in. Its just like, When the King is not there, the minister has to step in),” he said.
