Pakistan coach Azhar Mahmood confirms legal action against false T20 World Cup allegations

The disappointment of the T20 World Cup has unfortunately given rise to a culture of baseless accusations in Pakistan.

Pakistan cricket team assistant coach, Azhar Mahmood, has taken a strong stance against false accusations swirling in the wake of the team’s disappointing T20 World Cup performance. These allegations, primarily spread on social media and other media platforms, have prompted Mahmood to pursue legal action.

Azhar Mahmood denies baseless claims

At the heart of the controversy lies the accusation that the families of players and coaching staff enjoyed trips to the USA for T20 World Cup at the expense of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Mahmood vehemently denies these claims, calling them “entirely baseless and false.”

He expressed his deep frustration at the spread of such misinformation.

Stand against irresponsible Media Practices

Mahmood condemns the growing trend of spreading falsehoods to gain social media traction and media attention. He emphasizes that “speaking without evidence and misconstruing facts is a criminal offence,” and those responsible will face legal repercussions.

Azhar Mahmood has declared his intention to seek legal counsel against those who have fabricated these allegations against him and his family. He intends to pursue “strict action” to deter such behavior in the future.

He has also urged the public to refrain from engaging with these “harmful narratives” and called for a collective effort to end this kind of irresponsible media conduct.

Babar Azam considers similar action

It appears Azahar Mahmood is not alone in his fight against false accusations. Reports suggest that Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, is also contemplating legal action against YouTubers and former players who have leveled misconduct charges against him during the T20 World Cup.

Disheartened by these allegations, Babar is reportedly seeking legal advice and may send legal notices to those involved. The PCB’s legal department is actively gathering evidence related to these accusations.
