PAK vs NZ: PCB to select top-performing players from PSL 9 for training camp

New Zealand team is set to tour Pakistan in April for a five-match T20I series, beginning on April 18th.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced on Friday that players delivering outstanding performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 would earn spots in the upcoming fitness and training camp ahead of PAK vs NZ,

Ahead of the New Zealand tour, discussions on the selection of Pakistani cricket players took place during a meeting chaired by Naqvi at the PCB headquarters in Lahore. Attendees included Chief Selector Wahab Riaz, PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer, the director of international cricket, and other officials.

The New Zealand team is scheduled to tour Pakistan in April for a five-match T20I series, commencing on April 18, as preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup in June.

Emphasizing merit-based selection, Naqvi directed the inclusion of players based on their performance, even advising against his own recommendations.

“The players chosen on merit and performance possess the potential to deliver positive outcomes,” Naqvi asserted during the meeting, which focused on finalizing the selection for the training camp.

The chief selector presented a report highlighting standout performances by bowlers and batters in the recently concluded PSL season.

Following Islamabad United’s triumph in the PSL season, with a victory over Multan Sultans on March 18, several players were recognized for their exceptional contributions. Awards included Muhammad Irfan Khan for ‘Emerging Player of the Tournament’, Saim Ayub for ‘All-Rounder of the Tournament’, Muhammad Irfan Khan for ‘Fielder of the Tournament’, Azam Khan for ‘Wicketkeeper of the Tournament’, Usama Mir for ‘Bowler of the Tournament’, Usman Khan for ‘Batter of the Tournament’, and Shadab Khan for ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Shadab received additional acclaim for his leadership skills, while Peshawar Zalmi skipper Babar Azam was lauded for his consistent performances throughout the league.
