Rauf had a forgettable debut. He conceded 78 runs in 13 overs and was the most expensive fast bowler on the first day. Pakistan missed Rauf’s services in the second innings as England batsmen belted runs at will.
The absence of Shaheen Afridi this series due to injury and now Rauf’s injury may allow Pakistan to bring up a fast bowler from the original 18-man team. The only other prominent name is Mohammad Wasim Jr., but Pakistan might want to explore Hasan Ali and Mohammad Abbas.
In Rawalpindi, Pakistan had four specialized bowlers. Pakistan’s strategy is expected to change as a result of Rauf’s injury. Pakistan’s injury concerns are becoming more serious, which is not good news for the hosts.
