ENG beat PAK Highlights: Chasing 159 to win, England lost Phil Salt early but Alex Hales and Dawid Malan put on a promising partnership to get them through to the powerplay. On a slowish surface, both Malan and Hales played to their strengths and rotated strike, while putting the odd loose ball away to the fence.
Hales who returned to the England set-up after three years was particularly impressive even as Dawid Malan lost his wicket to Usman Qadir soon after the powerplay. Ben Duckett then joined forces as England were right on par, scoring 80 in their first 10 overs. Qadir once again struck the killer blow as Duckett was dismissed after a promising cameo.
With pressure mounting on England, Hales and newcomer Harry Brook rotated the strike and played out the overs of spin before taking the pacers for a ride. Brook was particularly aggressive and innovative, while Hales held the other end reaching his half-century in just 39 balls. He was dismissed the very next delivery, but his jon was done with the visitors needing less than a run a ball.

Brook played out some dot balls, in the end, to add some excitement to a rather dull finish with England sealing a six-wicket win in Karachi. Moeen Ali’s side now lead the series 1-0 heading into the second game on Thursday at the same venue.

Earlier Pakistan were put into bat and Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan got them off to a flyer with some aggressive shots against the new ball. The duo put on yet another fifty partnership with Rizwan being the aggressor, scoring a wonderful half-century in their 85-run stand.
Adil Rashid then broke the stand with a beautiful googly to dismiss Babar and a procession followed with none of the Pakistan players being able to grasp the conditions. Rizwan was also soon dismissed for 64 as Pakistan toiled hard in the middle overs. Some lusty hits from Iftikhar Ahmed took the hosts past 150, but some good execution at the death from Luke Wood and David Wiley saw them restricted to just 158. Wood, making his debut, picked up 3/24.
