Babar Azam had a day to remember as the Pakistan captain picked up his first-ever wicket in international cricket in the 2nd Test against Bangladesh. Bowling just his second over in international cricket, Babar struck with just his second ball, dismissing Mehidy Hasan out LBW for 14.
The Pakistan captain further added misery to the Bangladesh innings, who eventually succumbed to a defeat by an innings and eight runs. The incident happened in the 78th over of Bangladesh innings when Azam’s delivery hit Miraz on the wicket but the umpire wasn’t convinced. Azam went for the review which suggested the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps as a result of which Miraz was back in the hut for 14.

Speaking after the game, Babar Azam said that he felt like he needed to bowl at the stage of the innings and was delighted to come away with a wicket. The Pakistan captain said, “I felt that I needed to bowl at that stage and really happy I got that wicket (Mehidy). Our batsmen and especially openers gave us good start and our mindset was just to dominate despite the bad weather and Sajid’s spell gave us momentum and confidence to win this game.”
“Credit to groundstaff, they have done a really great job with all the rain around in the last few days. This series win gives us a lot of confidence and some crucial WTC points,” he added.
