A half-century from Babar Azam and some late fireworks from Iftikhar Ahmed and Usman Qadir saw Pakistan post a competitive 162/8 in their 20 overs. Babar and Mohammed Rizwan got the team off to a flyer but debutant Cameron Green struck two quick blows to derail the hosts.
The Pakistan skipper continued to march and eventually reached his half-century before Adam Zampa sent him back to the pavilion. Pakistan’s middle-order crumbled as Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis chipped in with wickets, but an 18-run last over ensured that Pakistan had a total to defend.

Australia began their chase in fine fashion with Travis Head continuing his good form with a breezy 24-run cameo. Captain Aaron Finch held onto the other end as Josh Inglis continued the onslaught after Head’s departure, before Usman Qadir threw a spanner in the visitors’ works with a twin strike.
Finch, who has struggled for form over the past couple of months, continued to keep the scoreboard ticking and reached a fine half-century. Marcus Stoinis also chipped in with a quick-fire 23 which ended all hopes of a Pakistan comeback.
The hosts however did not give up with Mohammed Wasim Jr and Shaheen Afridi picking up a flurry of late wickets to make things interesting. However, Ben McDermott, who came to bat at No.7, kept his cool and saw the team over the line in the final over.
