Immediately after the break, Australian captain Pat Cummins finally got the breakthrough as he dismissed Imam-ul-Haq for 157 by trapping him LBW. Azhar Ali however continued his brilliant batting by scoring his 19th Test ton. Babar Azam joined Azhar at the middle and Babar was keen to improve the run rate and started playing his beautiful drives. Azhar too soon joined the skipper as he started hitting a flurry of boundaries and reached 150. The duo went into Tea with the score at 394/2.
In the third session, Australia finally managed to break the partnership, that was starting to build, with a moment of brilliance from Marnus Labuschagne at the field. He dismissed Babar Azam run out with a direct throw. Azhar Ali was then dismissed for 181 by Labuschagne when he induced a reverse sweep from the batsmen. Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan took Pakistan to 476/4 before Babar Azam declared the innings.
