PAK vs AUS Day 1 Highlights:  Opener Imam-ul-Haq brought up his maiden Test century to highlight Day 1 action in the first Test match against Australia at Rawalpindi on Friday. Imam ended the day unbeaten at 132 off 277 balls as Pakistan were 245/1 at stumps on Day 1. Azhar Ali too hit a half-century as he remains not out at 64. The duo stitched together a terrific unbroken 140-run partnership for the second wicket.  Follow PAK vs AUS live updates on InsideSport.IN.

Imam ul Haq was brilliant right from the start as he treated the Australian bowlers with disdain. He effectively played the cut shots and drives and first stitched a good 105-run partnership with Abdullah Shafique and then the 140-run partnership with Azhar Ali to reach the landmark.

Earlier, Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bat first in what is touted as a historic Test match against Australia. Speaking at the toss Babar said, “The pitch looks nice so we’ll try to put runs on the board.” His team did exactly that as Openers Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique started positively.

First Abdullah Shafique took the role of the aggressor as he started hitting a flurry of boundaries early on. Imam soon joined him and both the batsmen never gave the Australian bowlers even an inch of comfort. However, just before lunch, Australia broke the opening stand as Shafique was dismissed for a well-made 44. Azhar Ali then joined Imam and the pair continued to build on a good partnership. They steered Pakistan to 165/1 just before tea. Imam brought up his maiden ton just before the end of the second session. The duo contined their onslaught post tea as well to give Australia another wicket-less session to finish Day 1 at a dominant position.

Australia are touring Pakistan for the first time after a long gap of 23 years. They will play three Test matches, as many ODIs and one T20I match against Babar Azam’s men. The Test series have been named Benaud-Qadir Trophy, paying homage to two legendary cricketing figures of these two nations, Richie Benaud and Abdul Qadir.

Australia are coming on the back of a 4-0 victory in the Ashes, Pakistan remains undefeated in the last four Tests series including a victory against South Africa at home and draw against West Indies away from home.

Pakistan will miss the services of Haris Rauf, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf and Hasan Ali, but they still have enough quality in their ranks to stun Pat Cummins’ baggy greens
