PAK vs AUS 2nd Test: Frustrated Pakistan reap little rewards as Australia dominate Day 1

Pakistan were left frustrated on Day 1 of the 2nd PAK vs AUS Test as they failed to get much breakthroughs at the MCG

Australia dominated Day 1 of the second PAK vs AUS Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) as Pakistan’s bowlers hardly managed to get any breakthroughs. Winning the toss in the Boxing Day Test, skipper Shan Masood opted to put Australia to bat first. The visitors could hardly manage to put up a show as Australia stood their ground firmly to end Day 1 on a decent note at 187/3.

PAK vs AUS: Australia dominate Day 1

David Warner and Usman Khawaja provided the perfect, yet patient start for Australia. The two stitched together a 90-run partnership before Warner was dismissed at the stroke of lunch. Salman Agha managed to get the southpaw to play a delivery which led to Babar Azam completing an easy catch at the slips.

Khawaja was the next to depart, as he joined his fellow opener back in pavilion shortly after lunch. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith then steadied the ship for the home side.

Pakistan, meanwhile, managed to reap very few rewards as their Day 1 was marred with dropped catches, close calls and frustration. Abdullah Shafique had a chance to send Warner packing early in the innings but put down a sitter at the slips. Smith managed to survive an LBW decision which was overturned after DRS, frustrating Pakistan further. However, the visitors struck gold a few overs later as he was caught behind off Aamir Jamal’s delivery. While the former skipper attempted to review the decision once again, this time luck was in favour of Pakistan as he was sent packing.
