Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav spilled the beans on his exclusion from the Duleep Trophy as he recovers from injury. The fiery pacer was sidelined during IPL 2024 after he suffered an injury, ending his dreams of making his India debut following a terrific IPL season. Mayank’s club coach has revealed details of his recovery and his roadmap to getting back on track to make his first national appearance.
What is Mayank Yadav upto?
As per Times of India, Mayank Yadav’s coach Devendra Sharma revealed that the pacer had said he wasn’t allowed to put load on his body when asked about his exclusion from Duleep Trophy squads. He further said that the pacer was made to bowl everyday in the morning at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) followed by a rehab and exercise session. The Sonnet club coach added that Mayank bowls 8-10 over everyday. Mayank further reporteldy told his coach that he was nearing gaining full fitness and is almost pain-free.
“He bowls eight-ten overs daily, and I did ask him why he wasn’t named in Duleep Trophy squads. To this, Mayank replied, ‘Sir, I have been told not to go into it as I can’t put too much load on my body and concentrate on white-ball cricket for now’,” said Devendra to IANS.

Former India bowling coach TA sekar believes that Mayank Yadav needs to readjust his technique in order to prevent injuries in the future. He added that the star was quite inexperienced and couldn’t be named in the Test side immediately. Sekar further noted that Mayank had been out of action for nearly five months after being ruled out of IPL 2024.
“His technique needs to be adjusted to reduce the likelihood of injuries, as anyone who bowls at 156 kmph, as shown by the IPL speed gun, is naturally more prone to injuries.” said TA Sekar, as quoted by IANS.
He’s played just one first-class game back in December 2022, and unsurprisingly, he got injured. 18 months later, Mayank has yet to play a red-ball match. He was awarded a fast-bowling contract from BCCI, but it’ll be truly shocking if he makes the Indian test team without performing in red-ball cricket.
