Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir took a shot at the fans stating that Indian cricket lovers are obsessed with individual players and not the whole team. The former World Cup winner said that the players in teams like New Zealand, Australia and England always put their country first.
Gautam Gambhir said, “Our country is not team obsessed, it’s individual obsessed. We count individuals bigger than our team, other countries like England, Australia, New Zealand, the team is bigger and not the individual”.
Speaking further, Gambhir said that the Indian fans will always remember the image of Kapil Dev holding the trophy after the final’s of 1983 WC but no one will remember Mohinder Amarnath who was adjudged player of the crucial encounter for India.
Meanwhile, the Indian skipper hinted that their side will be making some changes during the next WTC cycle. However, the main reason still remains if the likes of Rohit, Kohli, Rahane and Jadeja will be still playing the longest format till 2025?
“Obviously, there will be some talks around it [team combination] and we’ll see whatever is required and whatever is best, whatever the brand of cricket we want to play in the next two years. Who are the guys that can do that role for us, that’s the question we need to find answers for. And there are lot of guys, there are lot of players who are doing really well in our domestic cricket as well,” said Rohit in the post-match press conference.
