Optus Stadium Perth
Perth Stadium, known as Optus Stadium for sponsorship purposes, is a multi-purpose venue in the suburb of Burswood, Perth, Western Australia. Completed in late 2017, it officially opened on January 21, 2018, with the Australia vs. India Test. With a total capacity of 61,266, including a standing room. It is the third-largest stadium in Australia, following the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Stadium Australia. For rectangular sports, the seating capacity can be increased to 65,000.
The stadium primarily hosts Australian rules football and cricket. Perth’s two AFL teams, the Fremantle Dockers and the West Coast Eagles moved their home games from Subiaco Oval to this stadium. The Perth Scorchers also play their Big Bash League home games here, having previously used the WACA Ground.
Constructed by a consortium led by Multiplex, the Burswood site was selected in June 2011 after various proposals for other locations, such as Subiaco and East Perth. In 2019, Perth Stadium received the prestigious World Prix Versailles award in the Sports category, recognizing its excellence in architecture and design.
