Opposite of Hardik Pandya! Parthiv Patel leaves MI, joins GT as mentor ahead of IPL 2025: Reports

In December 2020, Parthiv Patel retired from all forms of cricket and joined Mumbai Indians in a scouting role.

Another franchise and another management shakeup is coming up! It is now Parthiv Patel, who is massively rumoured to join his state franchise Gujarat Titans in the role of a ‘batting mentor’ ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. As per the Times of India (TOI), the IPL 2022 champions are looking to rope in Parthiv in order to replace Gary Kirsten, who moved away earlier this year, to Pakistan Cricket as their white-ball head coach. According to a report by the Times of India (TOI), “Sources close to developments reveal that Patel will join the support staff led by former India cricketer Ashish Nehra.”

Parthiv Patel to do opposite of Pandya!

It was a breathtaking moment when Hardik Pandya swapped his alliance from GT to his former franchise, the Mumbai Indians (MI). While the move didn’t prove to be beneficial for either of the teams in IPL 2024, Parthiv Patel looks to be doing the opposite. As we all know, the former Indian international has been part of MI’s scouting team for four years now. However, he might be switching from MI to GT in order to have a new role in his IPL journey. As a batter, Parthiv played for six franchises, mustering 2848 runs at a strike rate of 120.78.

This should come as a piece of great news for GT, who had a terrible IPL 2024. Parthiv, a local Gujarati lad, knows the IPL system inside out and has a keen eye on budding youngsters. Some local Indian players would feel comfortable talking about the game with Parthiv, something which might not be easy for them amidst foreign coaches and management.

Apart from this, TOI has also reported that Vikram Solanki is likely to continue in his role as the Director of Cricket at the franchise. It was previously reported that both Solanki and head coach Ashish Nehra might be on their way out from GT ahead of IPL 2025 retentions.
