‘Only Specialist’ mantra for BCCI Selection Committee for India Squad for World Cup

‘Only Specialist’ mantra for BCCI Selection Committee for India Squad for World Cup

7 batters, 7 bowlers and Hardik Pandya as all-rounder is the mantra for the BCCI Selection Committee for the India Squad for World Cup 2023

Selecting the World Cup Squad for the Indian Cricket Team will not be an easy job. Ajit Agarkar and Co will have to be extremely crucial to bring out the best team for the Men in Blue in their selection of the 15-member squad. It is understood that the BCCI Selection Committee is going for 14 specialist players along with an all-rounder.

In order to fit the bill, some players will have to pave the way for others in the team, simply to avoid squad congestion. the BCCI Selection Committee has decided to select 7 specialist batters, 7 specialist bowlers, and one all-rounder i. e. Hardik Pandya for the World Cup Squad.

With no provision for other all-rounders, this can see the likes of Shardul Thakur failing to make the cut for the World Cup Squad. As for the bowling department, India is likely to go ahead with 4 pacers and 3 spinners.

It is not a question about merit and neither it is a question about his form. Shardul has done enough in the recent games to warrant his spot on the team. But going by the proposed team selection, there is hardly any space for the dependable all-rounder who in no way is getting a nod ahead of T20 skipper Hardik Pandya.

Coming to the bowling unit, India will move ahead with 4 specialist pacers. These include the likes auto selections like Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah. Therefore there will be a tough fight for the 4th pacer slot in the team.

The likes of Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar, and Jaydev Unadkat will be involved in a 4-way fight to secure the last pacer’s spot in the team.

Up and running KL Rahul’s availability for Asia Cup 2023 still uncertain

As for the spin department Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are the automatic selections in the team. Therefore Yuzvendra Chahal and the ever-dependent Axar Patel will fight for the last spinner’s spot in the team.

In terms of the batting department, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill are the first names that will be included in the squad. The middle order looks pretty shaky and the selectors will have a tough choice in choosing the ideal pieces. KL Rahul gets his designated spot as the keeper.

Ishan Kishan will fancy his chance in the squad and is likely to get it. But the selectors will be in serious doubt regarding the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson. The inclusion of Shreyas Iyer who is recovering from his injury is also a concern for the team. On the other hand, despite Ravi Ashwin and MSK Prasad speaking highly about Tilak Varma, the MI batter will at most be a standby player in the 18-member squad.
